       ELEMENTS OF VISUAL LANGUAGES

The elements of art are components or parts of a work of art that can be isolated and defined. They are the building blocks used to create a work of art.



-LINE
A line is an identiflable path created by a point moving in space

Types of lines:

1 Horizontal
2 Vertical

3 Diagonal
4 Straight
5 Curved


6 Thick


7 Thin















SHAPE AND FORM


Define objects in space.
There are differents types





SPACE

Space in a work of art refers:

a) To a feeling of depth or three dimensions
b) to the artist's use of the area within the picture plane

COLOUR


LIGHT 
Reflected off objects
There are three main characteristics:

1Hue





2Value




3 Intensity





VALUE 
Describes the brightness of colour
Artist uses colour value to create differents moods.

-Dark colours



- Light colours

INTENSITY 
Describes the purity of the colour

-Bright


-Dull

VALUE

Is the degree of light and dark in design




TEXTURE

The surface quality of an object that we sense though touch. All objects have a physical texture. Artist can also  convey texture visually in two dimensions.






    PRINCIPLES OF ART AND DESIGN

The principles of  design describes the ways that artists use the elements of art in a work of art. there are interdependent.

BALANCE

Is the distribution of the visual wight of objects, colours, textures and space.
The elemenrs should be balanced to make a design feel stable... or not
There are two types of balance:
-Symetrical balance; convey a sense of stability
-Asymmetrical balance: often conveys a sense of movement since the elements of the composition are inbalanced

RHYTHM

Rhythm result from the organized repetition of an elemnt of elemntd in a work of art.
There are three ,ethods of creating rhythm:
-Repetition
-Alternation
-Progression

PROPORTION

Is a principle of art that describes the size location or smount of one element to another in a work
Proportion also may be the relationship of the size of an artistic artifact with the human being. Thet is the Scale.


UNITY AND VARIETY

Uniti: is described as a sense of wholeness or oneness that is present when all partos of an art from work together. The concern if for the total from rather that inidividuals parts,

Variety: is contrast of color, different shapes or variations of lines or textures can create some interest and excitement.


COMPOSITION

An orderly arragement of elements using the principles of design. The principles of design help you to carefully plan and organize the elements of art so that you will hold interest and command attention. This is sometimes referred to a visual impact.
A good knowledge of composition is essential in producing good artwork
